{"id":1448,"date":"2014-07-14T13:00:18","date_gmt":"2014-07-14T17:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/annaabner.com\/?p=1448"},"modified":"2014-10-12T11:36:14","modified_gmt":"2014-10-12T15:36:14","slug":"want-to-buy-a-haunted-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/annaabner.com\/?p=1448","title":{"rendered":"Want To Buy A Haunted House?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>Or, Check Out This Illinois Home<\/h5>\n<p>Click <a title=\"article\" href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/americas\/haunted-house-on-sale-for-a-song-9317652.html\" target=\"_blank\">HERE<\/a>\u00a0to read the original article or scroll down<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">Haunted House On Sale For A Song<\/h4>\n<p>If you\u2019ve always dreamed of owning a mansion but don\u2019t have the funds required to make it a reality, then this property on the market in Illinois could be just the ticket.<\/p>\n<p>The Hiram B Scutt Mansion, former home of the Civil War veteran and barbed wire tycoon who gave it its name, is up for sale for just $159,900 (\u00a395,000).<\/p>\n<p>Built in 1882, the three-storey, red-brick building in Joliet covers 4,960 square-feet and is on the United States&#8217; National Register of Historic Places.<\/p>\n<p>But as the saying goes, if it sounds too good to be true, that\u2019s probably because it is \u2013 the sprawling residence is also said to be haunted,\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/mokena.patch.com\/groups\/around-town\/p\/historic-joliet-mansion-in-banks-hands-listed-for-159900-mokena\" target=\"_blank\">Patch.com<\/a>\u00a0reported.<\/p>\n<p>The house was bought by real estate broker Brian Kearney in 2004. Two years later football players from the University of St Francis rented out the building and threw a party.<\/p>\n<p>But during the festivities a 19-year-old man called Steven Jenkins was shot dead.<\/p>\n<p>Within a year of the murder, local historian and John Wilkes Booth impersonator Seth Magosky bought the large house \u2013he planned to open the P Seth Magosky Museum of Victorian Life &amp; Joliet History.<\/p>\n<p>But less than six months later he died suddenly at the age of 39.<\/p>\n<p>And some people believe the two men \u2013 as well as the original Scutt inhabitants \u2013 live on in the house.<\/p>\n<p>In 2010, Edward Shanahan, a spiritual observer, psychic reader and paranormal host wrote a\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagonow.com\/chicago-paranormal-and-spiritual\/2010\/04\/chicago-areas-paranormal-gem-haunted-scutt-mansion-jolietil\/\" target=\"_blank\">blog post<\/a>\u00a0for\u00a0<em>Chicago Now<\/em>\u00a0in which he described the mansion as a \u201dparanormal gem\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He wrote: \u201cThe years that have past, has seen many human tragedies within its four walls, from sudden deaths to a murder in the past that have left their emotional energy in the place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, real estate agent Marcia C Cronin told\u00a0<em>Patch.com<\/em>\u00a0that an energy reader had said the mansion is not haunted.<\/p>\n<p>So, it looks like the jury&#8217;s out.
