Radiohead have recalled working on their classic album \u2018OK Computer\u2019 in a haunted house, speaking in a new interview to mark the 20th anniversary of their seminal record.<\/p>\n
The band recently announced the\u00a020th anniversary reissue of their classic album \u2018OK Computer\u2019. Originally released in 1997, \u2018OK Computer\u2019 was largely recorded at\u00a0St Catherine\u2019s Court in Bath\u00a0between 1996 and early 1997.<\/p>\n
Speaking of the Somerset manor house where the likes of\u00a0The Cure\u00a0and\u00a0New Order\u00a0have also recorded, guitarist Jonny Greenwood has told\u00a0Rolling Stone\u00a0<\/em>that \u201cpeople were always hearing sounds\u201d in the house.<\/p>\n Frontman Thom Yorke added: \u201cGhosts would talk to me while I was asleep. There was one point where I got up in the morning after a night of hearing voices and decided I had to cut my hair.\u201d The singer described how he proceeded to attempt to cut his hair with\u00a0\u201cthe little scissors on a penknife\u201d and \u201ccut myself a few times. It got messy. I came downstairs and everyone was like, \u2018Uh, are you all right?\u2019 I was like, \u2018What\u2019s wrong?\u2019 Phil very gently took me downstairs and shaved it all off.\u201d<\/p>\n Elaborating on his psyche during the making of \u2018OK Computer\u2019, Yorke said:\u00a0\u201cI was basically catatonic. The claustrophobia \u2013 just having no sense of reality at all\u2026 I was getting into the sense of information overload, which is ironic, really, since it\u2019s so much worse now.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe paranoia I felt at the time was much more related to how people related to each other,\u201d he added. \u201cBut I was using the terminology of technology to express it. Everything I was writing was actually a way of trying to reconnect with other human beings when you\u2019re always in transit. That\u2019s what I had to write about because that\u2019s what was going on, which in itself instilled a kind of loneliness and disconnection.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cBack then,\u201d Yorke recalled, \u201cthe person I saw in the mirror kept saying, \u2018You\u2019re shit. Everything you do is shit. Don\u2019t do that.
